Location Shifting - Run Alignment

If mileposts are not consistently and carefully stamped during data collection, or there is odometer slippage, it may be necessary to correct locations of profile and/or geometry data. This is done from the Track Condition Chart window.

In the Profile View window, select the run you wish to align. Then select one or more comparison runs as the run(s) you will align to. These should be runs in which locations have been verified correct, and which may be designated as reference runs. Select Track Condition Chart from the menu, and create charts for the region you wish to align. The best indicators for aligning runs are often curve boundaries. Chart gauge wear for a profile run, or curvature and crosslevel for a geometry run. If you have older runs that are correctly aligned, select them as comparison runs, so that you can align the new run to them.

You may also select a comparison run for alignment by clicking on the colored run date in the upper-right corner of the chart window.

You may align runs manually, or, if you have geometry run containing GPS coordinates, you may align them automatically.
