Lookup Options

The Profile Lookup Options dialog affects the behavior of the Profile View windows when retrieving profiles. Maximum Profile Pair Separation is the allowable distance between profiles on opposite sides of the track that are retrieved and displayed as a pair. If the rail measurement system acquires profiles simultaneously from both sides of the track, then there will normally be no linear distance between left and right profiles. In that case the Maximum Profile Pair Separation may be set to 0.0. If the measurement system acquires profiles in a staggered fashion, first left, then right, then left, you must enter a positive value in order for profiles to be displayed as a pair.

The Maximum Comparison Separation specifies the allowable distance between a main run profile and the corresponding profile from a comparison run. This should always be set to a positive value, as profiles from different runs are never acquired at exactly the same locations. But it should not be set so high that a profile from the center of a curve may be compared to one near the curve boundaries. Rangecam always looks for the closest comparison profile to any given main-run profile, but if data is sparse, the closest profile could be hundreds of feet away, and comparisons may be misleading. A suitable value for this option is usually 1.5 to 3 times the average distance between collected profiles.
