Classification

The Classification table allows you to define rail classifications. There is no particular limit on the number of classifications; however, for charting purposes it may look best to keep the number below eight. Like subdivision number, the classification number is user-defined, but cannot be changed for an existing record. The classification name must be unique.

There is an additional constraint on classification numbers. Rangecam assumes that there is a linear order of rail classifications, from "best" (least wear) to "worst" (most wear). Rail classification numbers must reflect this order. That is, they must be arranged in ascending numerical order from best to worst, with the best classification having the lowest number (normally 1) and the worst classification having the highest number. The next section on the Rail Classification table contains more detail.

Each classification has an associated color, which is user-defined. Use the Colour button to change it. Rail wear classification colors are used in charts if the Threshold Colors measurement option is turned on. Threshold values for selected measurements are recorded in the Rail Classification table.
