The Rail Inventory calculation summarizes rail in a given section of track by rail type (weight) and wear classification. The results of the calculation are written to the database, and used in the Rail Inventory and other reports - notably the Wear Trend Chart and Wear Trend/Rail Replacement Report.
The rail inventory calculation reads through all profiles in a given data collection run. Looking at each side separately, it divides the rail into sections of the same rail weight. Each section is further subdivided into lengths of the same rail classification. A user-defined minimum length applies to the classification of segments. It is determined by the segment length option. Each segment of minimum length is classified according to the worst (i.e. highest-wear) rail classification of any profile within the segment. This reflects the idea that there is a minimum length of rail that can be practically replaced.
To calculate inventory for a single run, choose Reports/Inventory/Calculate Run... from the Profile View menu. To calculate or recalculate inventory for all runs in the database, choose Reports/Inventory/Calculate All Runs... The resulting dialog box offers the option between calculating (or re-calculating) all runs in the database, or calculating only runs for which inventory has not been previously calculated. Note: if the Inventory Calculation process is cancelled by the user while in progress, a partial inventory calculation for the run may remain in the database; these runs will not be recalculated if the Runs Not Already Calculated choice is used.
Alternatively, inventory may be calculated for a single run or all runs by choosing Run/Calculate All... from the Profile View menu.
When an Enterprise database is open, the rail inventory calculation is only available from the Rangecam Office System. The inventory report is available from all applications.
